CLICK v1.69.0 - February 2020
Great news - Cost Optimization has come to CLICK!
One of the most common things we hear from Amazon WorkSpaces customers is that it's hard to gain insight into WorkSpaces costs. Aggregate numbers don't quell the fear of runaway spending. You want to cut unnecessary costs, and prove out the value the remaining spend brings to your organization.
As WorkSpaces customers ourselves, we hear you! This feature release introduces visibility into the distribution of your WorkSpaces fleet by bundle type, account, and region. Furthermore, CLICK now provides analysis of the usage pattern of each WorkSpace in your fleet. Now, you can ensure all WorkSpaces are using the most cost effective billing configuration (monthly vs. hourly) as well as identify WorkSpaces that have low or no utilization - candidates for cost-saving termination.
Before you get started
To analyze usage patterns and generate cost optimization recommendations, CLICK requires permissions to read CloudWatch metrics from your AWS Accounts. You can use our guide to upgrade your cross-account role so CLICK can capture this data.
Note that once you update your cross-account role permissions, it can take up to one hour for CLICK to synchronize all of your historical usage metrics data.
It all starts on the new Insight Dashboard. As soon as you log in, you'll see summary information about your fleet at a glance.
From there, you can navigate to the Cost Optimization screen, and unlock the details of utilization. You can view and download reports on last connection time, total hours connected (especially those with zero), and cost optimization recommendations.
Armed with this information, you'll be able to take action, and revise the CLICK configuration to better align with how the WorkSpaces are being utilized. You can make bulk changes across account and region to WorkSpaces' running modes, controlling billing configuration, and also reassign WorkSpaces to an entirely new CLICK package, giving you far-reaching control of multiple WorkSpaces parameters at the click of a button.
Finally, if you need to review a WorkSpace's usage pattern in detail, you can now see a chart of the cost and usage history of each WorkSpace on the WorkSpace Details page.

We appreciate your continued interest in CLICK, and look forward to your feedback.
